The Chinese Ambassador to Maldives H.E. Mr. Wang Fukang calls on the Minister of Environment and Energy H.E. Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim

On 1st April 2014, the Chinese Ambassador to Maldives H.E. Mr. Wang Fukang paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Environment and Energy of the Maldives H.E. Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim. The meeting was also attended by the State Ministers at the Ministry Honourable Mr. Hassan Shah and Honourable Mr. Abdulla Majeed. 

Ambassador Wang introduced the measures taken by Chinese government on the issue of environment protection and development of clean energy and it’s great achievements. He said that the environmental issue have become more of a concern globally in recent years, and China and Maldives all belong to developing countries and should further strengthen cooperation in dealing with climate change. The Chinese government supports Chinese enterprises to invest in new energy projects in the Maldives.

Minister Thoriq introduced the progress achieved by the Maldivian government in utilization of clean energy, waste management, and in coping with climate change, Thoriq expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for the support and assistance in areas of solar energy generation and environmental protection. He welcome more Chinese enterprises to invest in clean energy projects in the Maldives, and noted that Maldivian government was willing to provide more preferential support.
