The Chinese Embassy in Maldives holds China-Maldives Media Conference

On 8th July 2014, during Xinhua News Agency Asia –Pacific Regional Headquarter delegation’s visit to Maldives, The Chinese Embassy in Maldives associated with Xinhua News Agency’s Colombo and Male’ office and the Maldivian Journalist Association held China-Maldives Media Conference. The Chinese Ambassador to Maldives H.E. Mr. Wang Fukang, the General Manager of Xinhua News Agency Asia-Pacific Regional Headquarter, Mr. Wen Xinnian, the President of the Maldives Journalist Association Mr. Ahmed Zahir, Chinese Embassy staff, members of Xinhua Agency Asia and Xinhua News Agency Asia –Pacific Regional Headquarter delegation, and representatives from the important Maldivian media organizations, a total of 30 members participated in the conference

 

Ambassador Wang made a welcoming address,he expressed his gratitude to the Maldivian news media for their support and participation in the conference, and introduced the current situation and prospects of China-Maldives relations, hoping that the news media of both countries would further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, enhancing bilateral understanding, increasing reports on the development of China-Maldives relations especially in the areas of tourism, trade, cultural and educational exchanges, and so on, jointly promoting the development of bilateral relations to a new high.

  

The General Manager of Xinhua News Agency Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau, Mr. Wen Xinnian introduced the development situation of Xinhua Agency overseas business, especially about the professional exchanges and cooperation with the Maldivian news media in recent years. He hopes that the exchanges between Xinhua News Agency and the members of important Maldivian media organizations would strengthen in the future, and that with the development of associate press and exchange visits, the areas and scope of bilateral cooperation would further deepen.

The President of Maldives Journalist Association, Mr. Ahmed Zahir noted that it was the first time for the Maldivian media to start professional exchanges with a major international news agency, and that there was close cooperation between Maldivian news media and the Xinhua News Agency. The Television Maldives and Xinhua News Agency were to enter a contract on provision of articles, where Xinhua would provide TVM with news material, greatly enhancing the development of Maldivian news media. He hoped that the exchanges and cooperation would continue to deepen in the future.

The participants of both Chinese and Maldivian media organizations actively expressed their views on further strengthening bilateral exchanges and cooperation between media organizations of both sides.

After the conference, the participants attended a reception organized by the Chinese Embassy. The atmosphere of the reception was lively and friendly, brining the two sides even closer, enhancing friendship and understanding.
