On 4th Dec 2014, a fire broke out in Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), causing great damage to the generator unit and disrupted the water supply to the local people. How critical the situation was!

Luckily, Chinese government came to the immediate help in coordinating the relevant departments and the military to transport water to Malé at the first time, which was praised highly by President Xi Jinping.

On 6th Dec., two Chinese civil aircraft delivered 32.5 tonnes of water and the Chinese company CMEC sent 5 tonnes of bottled water to Malé.

On 7th Dec., China Southern Airlines delivered 25 tonnes of water and the CMEC delivered 20 tonnes water to Malé. Besides, a marine rescue vessel of the Chinese Navy sent about 700 tonnes of fresh water to Malé.

On 8th Dec., two Chinese military aircraft carrying 40 tonnes of drinking water arrived at Malé. Besides, China donated $ 500,000 to Malé to help the city overcome the challenge.

What China has done fully demonstrates that China and its neighbouring countries share the same destiny and the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness. A friend in need is a friend indeed!
