The Housing Projects in Maldives
--Story 9 on 50 Years of China-Maldives Diplomatic Ties

According to Chinese State Councilor&FM Wang Yi, China has helped build more than 10000 housing units for Maldives. About 60000 Maldivian people’s living conditions have been greatly improved. The Maldivian Government and people highly appreciate it.

In December 2012, the Housing Project Phase I in Hulhumalé was completed, providing 1000 housing units with 56 buildings to the Maldivian people. 

On 15 September 2014, during his state visit to Maldives, Chinese President Xi Jinping and former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen unveiled the nameplate of the Housing Project Phase II, providing 1500 housing units in 9 islands of 5 atolls.

In March 2018,the on-going Housing Project Phase III in Hulhumalé was commenced, which will provide 1344 housing units and parking facilities. CMEC is working hard to overcome the difficulties caused by COVID-19 to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.  

In March 2020, the 7000 housing project, know as Hiyaa Flats and constructed by CSCEC, was completed, providing 7000 housing units with 16 buildings in Hulhumalé.
