In September 2005, the New Building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, one of the local landmarks, constructed by Shanghai Construction Group(SCG), was completed. The "Sailboat" shape implies that the China-Maldives friendship will sail steadily.

 On 29 December 2018, for improving the working environment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China and Maldives signed the exchange letter on Renovation Project of Office Building of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives.

On 31 December 2020, the Renovation Project of the Office Building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives was completed and handed over to the Maldivian side after 2 years of hard work by SCG.

On 15 July 2021, the newly-renovated Office Building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives was officially inaugurated by Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

On 7&8 January 2022, during the official visit of Chinese State Councilor&FM Wang Yi to Maldives, a series of activities were held in the newly-renovated office building, taking the relationship of the two sides into a new journey.
