Ms. Guo Caizhen, a Chinese who married a Maldivian husband, has been living in Malé since 2010. Ms. Guo can understand both Chinese and Maldivian cultures, and is interested in introducing differences as well as similarities of Chinese culture and Maldivian culture to Chinese in Maldives and local Maldivians to show the different beauty and uniqueness of the two countries.

Ms. Guo is proud of being a Chinese living in Maldives. Every time when visiting the construction site of China-Maldives friendship bridge with family and local friends, she would always tell them about how amazing and difficult it could be to build such a giant project within a short period of time with the support of advanced modern technologies.

Meanwhile, as wife of a Maldivian, Ms. Guo believes that she has the obligation to introduce the Maldives and Maldivian culture to fellow Chinese. She participated the Chinese Food Festival held by Chinese Embassy in 2018 and sponsored to set up a food stand to introduce Maldives snacks and other special foods. She believed that mutual understanding is vital and helpful for the people of China and Maldives to enhance their friendship.

Ms. Guo pays much more attention to educating her children both in Chinese and Maldivian cultures. Her children learned a lot both from Chinese culture and Maldivian culture and grew up in dual culture background. As a result, they have broader views toward the outside world.

Besides Chinese and Maldivians, Ms. Guo likes making friends from different countries, to whom she introduces Chinese culture, especially Chinese food. They often hold “dish party”, where they shared information about culture and specialties. Dumplings are always popular for their tastes and meaning of family reunion.
