China-aid Vehicle to Maldives National Drug Agency

Drug issue has become a severe social problem confronting the international community. Chinese government has been sharing its successful experience on anti-drug and reinforcing cooperation with Maldivian government.


Recently, Ambassador Wang Lixin met with Minister of Health @KerafaNaseem. Both sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation on anti-drug, rehabilitation services, drug testing etc.




The Chinese side has been keeping collaboration with Maldivian concerned authorities on drug issues. On 6 October 2016, Wang Fukang, former Ambassador of China to Maldives, paid a visit to the Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center at Kaafu Hinmafushi, highlighting China’s willingness to help the Maldivian government crackdown on drug-related issues.




On 28 June 2018, Zhang Lizhong, former Ambassador of China to Maldives, met with Hassan Shaheel, CEO of the National Drug Agency. They discussed on drug problems Maldivian side faced and cooperations to fight against drugs between the two sides.




On 6 August 2018, the Chinese government donated a 16-seater van to NDA. At the handover ceremony, former ambassador Zhang Lizhong stressed that this donation reflected the profound friendship between China and Maldives and aimed to support the Maldivian Government to combat drug crimes and help the drug addicts back to society.




Anti-drug is a long-term, arduous and complex social project. China would like to continue to provide further support within its capability on experience exchange and capability to help the Maldivian side to get more experience and capacity building to enhance its internal ability to cope with drugs-related problems.
