On October 22, the Chinese Embassy hosted a grande reception to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 50th anniversary of establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Maldives. H.E. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, H.E. Vice President Faisal Naseem, H.E. President Mohamed Waheed, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid graced the function.

The function started with three videos: China’s remarkable development over past decades with charts and graphs, Introduction of the Communist Party of China, and Review on China-Maldives Friendship over the past 50 years.

The national anthems of the two countries were played solemnly.

H.E. Ambassador Wang delivered a speech, stressing that under the strong leadership of the CPC, the Chinese people have witnessed three major events of great importance in the past 10 years and are now embarking on a new journey to realize the second centenary goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects. Wang highlighted that the China-Maldives relations have set a good example of countries of different sizes treating each other as equals and seeking win-win cooperation, the two countries are now embarking on a shared path to hope, prosperity and happiness. China is ready to work with the Maldives to promote the future-oriented all-round friendly and cooperative partnership to a new level.

H.E. President Solih delivered his remarks, conveying warm greetings on the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the successful conclusion of the 20th National Congress of CPC, and extending sincere wishes to H.E. President Xi Jinping, the government and the people of China. President Solih pointed out that China continues to be an important development partner for the Maldives and that the China-Maldives partnership has been key to the Maldives’ development journey. The two countries could work together to advance the development partnership in the coming years and beyond.

H.E. Ambassador Wang Lixin showed the Vice President and other guests around the photo exhibition “Extraordinary 10 Years”, reviewing the great achievements of China. The distinguished guests highly praised the social and economic achievements in China and wished China and Maldives enjoy everlasting friendship.

All guests enjoyed delicacies while videos of cultural performances by the artists of the two countries were shown as appetizers. The whole reception ended in joy & happiness, vividly reviewing the past 5 decades and vigorously opening the new chapter of the China-Maldives relations!
