To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of China-Maldives Diplomatic Relations, the Art & Photography Contest with the theme of China Maldives Friendship was held by China-Maldivian Cultural Association (CMCA) in partnership with Chinese Embassy in August 2022.  

On November 12, the 50th Anniversary China Maldives Diplomatic Relations Art & Photography Exhibition was held at the National Museum of Maldives. Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin, Ms. Yumna Maumoon, Minister of Arts, Culture & Heritage, Mr. Ahmed Latheef, Foreign Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Rasheed Founder of CMCA and more than 50 other guests attended the opening ceremony. 

Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin, Minister Yumna Maumoon and Mr. Mohamed Rasheed cut the ribbon for the Art & Photography Exhibition, where a total of 26 works were exhibited, focusing on China Maldives Friendship. 

Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin, Minister Yumna Maumoon and Mr. Ahmed Latheef awarded prizes and certificates for the winning works and presented certificates to other participants of the contest.    

Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin made remarks on the function. She said, the exhibits showed the artists’ great creativity & enthusiasm for China-Maldives friendship. Art knows no borders. It plays an important role in promoting exchanges and enhancing mutual understanding and friendship. She highlighted that the two countries should have more cultural exchanges & cooperation to promote China-Maldives relations to a new level. 

Minister Yumna made remarks on the function. She thanked the Chinese side for its long-term support for the development of Maldivian culture and said that the 50th Anniversary China Maldives Diplomatic Relations Art & Photography Exhibition was held at the China-aided National Museum of Maldives, which fully reflected the traditional friendship between Maldives and China. In recent years, Maldives-China cultural exchanges and cooperation had continued to make progress. The Maldivian side was willing to work together with the Chinese side to continue to further promote cultural exchanges and cooperation and continuously enhance the understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

The representatives of award winners thanked the Chinese Embassy and CMCA for organizing the contest and exhibition, and expressed their hope that more such events would be held in the future, and that they hoped to have opportunities to study in China and to learn more about China and Chinese culture.
