The Housing Projects in Addu atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll

On 15 September 2014, during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Maldives, President Xi and former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen unveiled the nameplate of the Housing Project Phase II of 1500 housing units in 9 islands of 5 atolls, including the housing projects in Addu atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

In December 2016, the housing projects in Hithadhoo island and Hulumeedhoom island, Addu Atoll, constructed by CMEC, were completed and handed over to the Maldives, providing 312 housing units for the residents of the two islands.

In January 2017, the housing project in Gadhdhoo island, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, constructed by CMEC, was completed and handed over to the Maldives, providing 50 housing units for the residents of the island.

Up to now, China has helped build more than 11000 housing units for Maldives, making more than 60000 Maldivian people’s living conditions improved greatly. China will continue to support the Maldives in its effort to speed up the economic and social development.
